Weekly Album Update

Five more weeks in the weekly album for this year. Let's take a look...

Yes, I was very glad to say good-bye to February's cold this year, although the beginning of March was not much better.

The time change came around awfully early.

If you read my note, you'll see I did exaggerate on this one, but comparatively speaking, it did seem very balmy.

I finally caved and started an art journal. It's pretty fun-- I should have started it long ago!

The end of March was way below normal in the temp department. Back to winter coats and gloves. Pooh!
Have a pleasant day!

Mr. Grabbit

It has been way too long since I showed one of my childhood books. With Easter just around the corner, I pulled out Mr Grabbit. Published in 1952, this is a Whitman "Tell-A-Tale" book. I must have acquired it much later, probably the late 60s. Note: any teeth marks seen in my old books are reminders of my family's black Lab, Toby.

The illustrations in the book are very bright and cheery. The story is about a rabbit who is greedy and takes more of everything than what he needs.

The above umbrella incident, which results in Mr. Grabbit being stuck in a church steeple, makes him change his ways in the end.

Old kid books are so cute-- just like us old kids, right?

Have a nice day!

Dollhouse Kitchen

I haven't shown anything from any of my dollhouses recently. Here is a kit I bought for myself and my daughter for Christmas for the haunted dollhouse; I thought antique pieces would look good.

So here is everything put together but unpainted.

And here is everything painted with the exception of one door knob on the dry sink. It fell out while I was painting and I forgot to touch it up before I shot the picture. Don't worry-- I'll get to it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Oh No! More Inchies!

Yes, more inchies today. Mostly 1970s magazine snippets once again plus a little scrapbook paper.

Have a nice, little day!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

This week's Wacky Package was made in 1974 (when ketchup came in glass bottles and was hard to pour out!) although Heinz ketchup goes all the way back to 1876. Boy, some of these products have really been around a looooong time!

Thanks for reading!

Smarch

"Smarch" is an alternate name for March, describing crummy, wintry weather that annually occurs when we think it should be sunny and 55 degrees; it comes from the TV show The Simpsons so you can't argue its credibility.  We definitely are seeing Smarch conditions here. Remember a little over a week ago I posted about the nice weather and 60 degree temps? Well, how about this... Yes, we had snow Monday. About 3 1/2".  Boo!

Here are my resurrection lilies.

There are daffodil buds under there.

Remember the birdhouse shot? Well. the roof looks different now.

Don't be too concerned; they're calling for 50s for tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Thriftless In Chicago

In case you've noticed a lack of thrifting posts lately, you're not imagining things. I've hardly found anything worthwhile this year. Below is the big haul from two thrift shops last week. The little chipmunk is for my daughter, the bookmark I'll be using for a dollhouse rug, so the only resale item is the apple dish (wish is marked 1962 in case you're interested).

I found this nifty, old flour sifter a couple weeks ago.

Things have been so lame that I have been listing items from my own house. Not that I'm that crazy about reselling, but since the finds have been next to nothing, I decided it was a good time to unload a few things.

I'm parting with some other things as well-- or not since the online selling has hit a slump lately too. Any of you resellers experiencing the same??

Have a nice day, everyone!

Before and After Envelopes

I have shown my mail art envelopes before, but I thought it might be interesting to see what the papers look like before I transform them. I'd like to see this too so here are the magazine pages after I painted them followed by the finished product.

Kinda cool if I do say so myself.  Have a great day and thanks for viewing!

Linking to Shopping Our Stash since I painted these and their current theme is "I Made This"/make your own background.  Thanks, folks!!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

This week's Wacky will probably be a test for your memory; I don't remember it at all although I was never real fond of gum. If you liked gum in the 70s, you might remember Big Buddy bubble gum. It came in several flavors. This yellow packaging represents the apple flavor.

Thanks for stopping by!

Playing With Bubble Wrap

Since my post title gives away what I used on these bookmarks and note cards, I won't play a guessing game.

Yes, it's bubble wrap, painted with craft paint and used like a rubber stamp.  Pretty cool and easy, although a tad messy.

Here are the finished bookmarks. I like the way they turned out. I will say, however, the "bubbly" background does compete a bit. I found using small images just didn't look right.

Below are the two cards. I ended up covering most of the bubble stamping. Maybe I should keep that in mind next time and not add so much paper, but they look pretty nice if I do say so myself.

So yet another way to play with bubble wrap besides popping it!  Have a nice day!

One Time Change Later...

Last Saturday, you may recall, I posted some none-too-springy photos. Well, yesterday we saw this:

Even though the temp was well above freezing, we still have some of this laying around.

However, we put out our old birdhouse which the sparrows love. Someone moved in the very next day.

Last year's sedum was removed (by yours truly), and there is new growth there.

The resurrection lilies are looking better.

My newish mint plant is coming back too.

Yea! Warm weather and green!! Hope it holds. Have a nice weekend!
