New Year's Postcard, Clocks

This is the newest postcard I have added to the collection. I just bought it on Etsy this fall. When it arrived, I shot this photo to post on Jan. 1st before I had this brainy idea of posting cards every day. That is why this photo is set up differently. Hope you don't mind too much.

Happy New Year's Eve!!  Have fun but be careful out there!

New Year's Postcard, Red Sky

Yet another postcard today. This one, too, looks rather Christmas-y and Mary Engelbreit-y.

Getting that resolutions list together???

New Year's Postcard, Flourish

This card was a somewhat recent purchase-- three or so years ago on Ebay. Pretty fancy, eh?

Have a super day!

New Year's Postcard, Birds

A very pretty postcard for today, although it kind of makes me feel cold!  Very effective snow!

Stay warm!

New Year's Postcard, Poinsettias

This postcard has a very Christmas look to it-- at least I always thought so. The houses also remind me of Mary Engelbreit art.

Happy Friday!

New Year's Card, Deco

As promised, I'll be posting vintage New Year's cards until January 1st. I have more postcards than greeting cards. I think sending wishes for New Year's was more popular in the early 1900s, when postcards were common, than later decades. This is a greeting card with rather deco looking letters.

By the way, I hope you survived the festivities yesterday!

Christmas Tour

Since this is Christmas Day, I better get with a little tour of my little house. Here is a sampling of the annual decor to celebrate the season and chase away the winter blues. I have a modest mix of family pieces and thrifted, dating back to WWII. You might also see a new item here and there (gasp).

A shelf in my kitchen that for the last three or so seasons has housed my mother's Kitty Cucumbers-- many of them I bought for her as gifts.  The bottom shelf is a camel collection I once started and now just display for Christmas.

A collection of Christmas boxes.  A couple once belonged to relatives; all others were thrifted.  They are empty except for the box with the candles-- there are old Christmas light bulbs in there.  My mother stored them in there; I just left them. Pay no attention to the outlet in the background.

Cross stitch and large painted house by yours truly. The little house was purchased by my daughter last year at a local estate sale. 1980s ski folks. The elf/Santa was a gift some 20 years ago. The brick thing is a gift tag!

An old gift bag and another cross stitch-- that one was a pain! The pattern was super tiny. Ugh!

Christmas books from my childhood. You can see how well-loved they were/are; 2 out of 3 are missing their covers!

A knee-hugger ornament. My great-aunt took it off her own Christmas tree back in the 70s and gave it to me. If she could see how popular they are today!

A kind of odd elf/pixie/? Picked up at a thrift store a couple years ago. I like the unusual blue color.

This elf is a bell. Bought at a garage sale for my daughter a few years ago.

Very old bird clip ornament that belonged to my grandparents. He's never had tail feathers during my lifetime.

Just an old ornament bought at an antique store about 15 years ago.

Felt bird ornament made by my mother in the 70s. Remember when those felt kits were popular?

And, of course, the Gurleys are out again this year. I think they might need a new spot next year. Getting too predictable.

There is a lot more scattered around, but that was quite enough pictures, don't you think??  Hope you are having a nice holiday in your neck of the woods!

Christmas Postcard, Christmas Wish

MERRY CHRISTMAS!! I chose this card for number 25 so I can wish you a happy holiday! Have a special kind of day whatever you do!

Thanks for viewing the Christmas cards this month. Will start New Year's cards tomorrow.

Christmas Card, Santa

I had to pick a card with Santa Claus for Christmas Eve, right?

Have a wonderful day! Hope Santa visits your house tonight!

Christmas Card, Deco

Another older card for number 23. The font is very art deco. The ribbon is real too!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve!

Christmas Card, Blue Star

An older card for number 22. I wonder if this was made during WWII, hence the blue star? What do you think?

Christmas is sure close now!!!

Christmas Card, Very 70s

Christmas card number 20 shouts 1970s. The colors and style are fabulous! How cheery to receive a card like this in the mail.

Enjoy!

Thanks for looking!

Christmas Card, Mod Bells

Well, more pink for Christmas!  Card number 19 is pretty cool as far as Christmas cards go. I found several of these at a thrift store about 12 years ago. So fun!

Have a good day out there!

As I mentioned before, I love pink for Christmas! Card number 18 is very pink and very pretty!

Christmas is getting close!  Enjoy!

Christmas Postcard, Stylish Girl

An old postcard for number 17 today.  A very stylish drawing. I picked this up at an antique store quite a long time ago-- when they were affordable.

Enjoy your day!

Christmas Card, Mod Still Life

Can you say "mod?" Card number 16 certainly showcases that era. Love the colors and slim design!

Have a great day!

Christmas Card, Festive Table

Christmas card number 15 is a simple idea but oh so pretty! No one uses long tablecloths anymore, do they?

Enjoy!

Christmas Card, Crafty Cat

I love card number 14! I bought several of these at a garage sale about 15 years ago. I sent a few and kept one for myself. This cat and his friends look like they stepped right out of a 1970s craft magazine!

Have a fun day!

Christmas Card, Victorian Parlor

Card number 13 is very colorful and charming. Cards don't seem to have this kind of detail nowadays, do they?

Don't panic, but there's less than two weeks till Christmas!  Oh yeah-- and it's Friday the 13th too-- maybe we should panic!

Christmas Card, Sweetest Angel

You can't get much sweeter than this little angel and lamb, can you? This was an Ebay purchase just last year. I couldn't resist. And this is card number 12 for those of you keeping track.

Have a sweet day!

Christmas Card, Candle Lit Tree

Kind of simple yet pretty card for number 11 today. I like the angel topper. As a matter-of-fact, I always put an angle atop my tree-- I've had mine since the 70s! I believe this card is earlier than that. 50s or 60s.

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Card, Pink Angel

Card number 10 might be kind of dated looking, but I love it. Pink was a hip Christmas color back in the 60s. I hope it comes around again one of these years.

Hope your day is in the pink!

Christmas Card, Red House

Sweet yet fun card for number 9. Looks like a very welcoming house, doesn't it?

Have a nice day!

Christmas Card, Fun Reindeer

Card number 8 is one of my favorites. What's not to like about a happy reindeer decked out for Christmas on a flocked red background? Talk about stylish!

Enjoy!

A Bonus

Bonus card today-- I made this for Sunday Postcard Art and their "Advent" theme. The three wise men image is from an old postcard, and the postage stamp in the upper right corner is old too. Everything else is new scrapbook paper or downloaded images.

Joy to you!

Christmas Postcard, Simple But Classy

A very simple yet elegant postcard today for #7.  It also is embossed. Click on the image to bring it up larger if you would like to read the sentiment.

One week of December is almost down!

Christmas Card, MCM Trees

The white bricks and iron scrollwork look very mid-century modern to me. What would you say?  Late 50s/early 60s?

Have a mod day!

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Christmas Postcard, Sleigh

An old postcard today for card #5. Love the style of the lettering.

Do you have snow yet??  I'm happy to report I do not!

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Christmas Card, Calico Tree

Christmas card #4 looks very mid-70s to me. Do you remember calico smock tops and Holly Hobbie?

Have a good, ol' day out there!

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

Christmas Card, Woodland Friends

Christmas card #3-- a very cute but very chilly looking scene.

Stay warm!

Christmas Card, Happy Snowman

I'm off to a rip roarin' start.  Almost missed day #2 of the Christmas cards, but since it's 7:35 p.m. (my time), I guess I'm okay.

Have a nice night!  Should "see" you earlier tomorrow!

Xmas Cards for December

Hello! Can it really be December???  I turned over my calendar today so I guess so. I still am not ready to return to "regular" blogging, but thought for the month of December I'd share vintage Christmas postcards and greeting cards from my humble collection.  I have a shoebox's worth. They span about 110 years!! I plan to post one every day until Christmas.  From Christmas to New Year's, I'll share New Year's cards.  Just posting one picture sounds do-able. So here is card #1:

Enjoy this busy season!

Holiday ATCs

Hello!  I haven't been doing as much crafting as usual lately but did manage several Christmas themed ATCs, using old postage stamps. Do you remember any of these? I must admit I do not, but then again, that's probably not something that sticks in your mind. Notice the prices??

These and a few others are for sale in my Etsy shop so technically I should call them ACEOs.  "ATC" is okay among friends though.

Thanksgiving will soon be upon us!!!

Wacky Weather

One thing you can depend on in the Midwest is rapidly changing weather.  It's not unheard of to have the AC and the furnace on in the same week. This past Monday, Verteran's Day, we had this:

A tad early for snow.  And tomorrow is expected to be in the 60s with thunderstorms. Wacky, indeed!

Have a good day!
