Wacky Answer

I'm sure everyone knew yesterday's (2-27-13) Wacky Package.  Hot Wheels have been around for a long time now.  They were introduced in 1968.  Ahh... 1968 has a good ring to it.

Blues Brothers ATC

I'm posting an ATC I just finished for the current challenge at Order of the Opus Gluei: You Oughts Be In Pictures.  One of the suggestions is to use your favorite film.  Well, a lot of my favorite films are a little heavy on the drama.  I wanted something more upbeat.  About two seconds after I thought of The Blues Brothers, my husband said, "What about The Blues Brothers?"  Dear, you're scaring me.  So I guess it was meant to be.

Enjoy!  We got some more snow yesterday, but I'll spare you more winter pictures!

Wacky Pack Wednesday and The Weather Outside Is Frightful

This Wacky Pack has nothing to do with frightful weather, but it is one of my favorites because of the bright colors.  How about the "lemon mobile" on the bottom left?

And for the frightful part of this post: yesterday we had a little sleet, pouring rain, really-coming-down snow, and finally light flurries.  Not that those conditions are so unusual in these parts, but we've been so spoiled this winter that it did seem odd to hear plows roar down my street.

Is March really only a couple days away???

Enjoy!

TT/Letter H

We are up to the letter H at Tag Tuesday.  Most young folks probably never heard of Hedy Lamarr, but to a movie buff, she was quite a star.  And certainly one of the most beautiful.  Every photo of her is prettier than the last.

Gone With The Wind

Since the Academy Awards are on tonight, I decided to post another of my film books.  A movie must be pretty darn good to have an entire book published about it. I'd say Gone With The Wind measures up to that.  I bought this book in 1989, the same year it was published which was the movie's 50th anniversary (I'd rather not figure out how old it is today).  Tons and tons of photos, many "behind the scenes" shots too, make this book really interesting.

So are you having an Oscar party?

Score Board

This just in: Cubs over the Angels 11-2.  And Pat Hughes was not announcing today; Len Kasper took the reins.

Spring Training 2013

Today a Cubs game will be heard over local radio for the first time in 2013.  A spring training game against the Angels.  That means we (almost) made it through another winter... there is hope...

I am looking forward to tuning in, listening to the crack of the bat, the cheers and jeers from the crowd, a joke or two from announcer Pat Hughes, and forgetting about this...

and this...

for a couple of hours.

Linking to Mockingbird Hill Cottage because Spring Training has always filled me with the promise of Spring!

Play ball!

Note: I shot my jersey and Pez dispenser late last summer hence no snow in the background!

ATC/ACEO

Below is an ATC I created for Inspiration Avenue's current challenge: Which Road?

I've been making a lot of ATCs and ACEOs lately.  I've touched on that in an earlier post, but if you're thinking, "What the heck does ATC and ACEO stand for?" read on.  Artist Trading Cards (ATC) are mini works of art.  A standard 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" size, they can be any media or mixed and are to be swapped.  ACEO stands for Art Cards Editions or Originals; they are the same with the exception they are intended to be sold.

ATCs are fun-- to me-- due to the size, you can finish one off rather quickly. Storage is easy, displaying is easy, shipping is easy, and they are just plain cool!  Give it a whirl some rainy, sleety, snowy day.

All of these cards will find their way to my Etsy shop one of these days.  A couple are already there.

Enjoy!

Wacky Answer

I hesitate to even post this.  Is there anyone who did not know yesterday's (2-20-13) Wacky Pack?  Of course, it is Ritz crackers.  Anyone remember the Andy Griffith commercials?  "Good cracker!"

Wacky Pack Wednesday

I could make some sort of pun about being a ditz if you don't know this Wacky, but I think the sticker speaks for itself.

TT/Letter G

Extra credit again this week at Tag Tuesday since both this star's first and last name begin with "G."  There probably isn't anything I can say about Greta Garbo that you don't already know.  She is such an icon that in using only half her face, she is still recognizable!

Screen Goddesses

Time for another of my film books.  Screen Goddesses was published in 1984.  My folks gave me this copy for Christmas of that same year. 20 different actresses are highlighted with the somewhat odd inclusions of Joan Collins and Bo Derek-- trying to be "timely," I would say.

Marilyn Monroe on the cover

Greta Garbo in quite the costume.

 Mae West

 Betty Grable

 Always stylish Audrey Hepburn

Top: Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly
Bottom: Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner

Jean Harlow

Very nice book as it contains color as well as black and white photos.

1953 Kitchen

I promised no paper arts today.  This a (um, paper) magazine ad.  Hope that is okay!  I picked up a very kicked about 1953 Woman's Day magazine at a garage sale last year for collage purposes.  This Armstrong flooring ad was inside the back cover.  How about this kitchen?

What do you think?  I usually like strong colors, but I dunno about this combination. I do like those cupboards on the right; notice the red interiors?  Clever island/table too.

Kitchen decor sure has changed!  Comparatively speaking, today's upscale kitchens look like a hotel or restaurant.  Apologies to you upscalers.  In 1953 kitchens looked more homey.  Can't you smell the meatloaf?

ATC Love

I know I've been a little heavy on the paper arts lately so what's one more?  Here is an ATC for the Collage Obsession challenge this week: "Love."

I used a postage stamp that wasn't cancelled.  The other elements are scrapbook paper with a small piece of sewing pattern tissue at the bottom.

I promise no paper projects in tomorrow's post; whatever that might be.  At the moment, I have no idea!

Wacky Answer

Yesterday's (2-13-13) Wacky should have been familiar to most females out there. The popular board game "Mystery Date."  I never owned it, but a friend down the street did.  Kind of fun when you're about eleven years old.

Also thought I would mention Valentine merch in my Etsy shop is now on sale.

Valentine's Day 2013

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  Have a wonderful day!!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

I went through my Wackys, trying to find a Valentine Day appropriate sticker.  This was as close as I could get.  Hope your date on Valentine's Day turns out better!

TT/Letter F

I would bet no one at Tag Tuesday thought of W.C. Fields for "F" except me.  His movies were occasionally on TV when I was a kid, and I always got a kick out of his humor.  A vaudeville performer first, Fields didn't start making movies until he was in his thirties.  If you're looking for a shot of Fields, try It's A Gift-- a classic; guaranteed chuckles.

So do you know what "W.C." stands for?  I do.

Tie One On

Another paper challenge submission today. This tag is for Unruly Paper Arts.  The theme is "Tie One On," meaning add a bow to your project.  Easter is not too far off. I found the lamb and sentiment at The Graphics Fairy.  Nice old-fashioned look.

Favorite Part Of Winter (?)

The "No More WInter Whining" link party might have to back pedal a bit after the recent snowfall out east.  That's okay-- go ahead and whine!  The theme this final week is "Favorite Part of Winter."  Well, decades ago, I would have answered, "ice skating."  I used to love it, but for health reasons, I can no longer skate :(  Here are my (quite) old skates.

Those skates were old when I bought them.  My town used to have an annual used skate and ski sale.  I bought these there when I was 12 or so, and the funny part is there was a name written inside the boots; it was a good friend and neighbor of mine!  I talked to her a few years ago and mentioned I still had her skates.  She couldn't believe it.

Today, however, with a somewhat broken body and jaded attitude, there are a few things I would have to admit I like about winter.  Closed windows so I don't have to listen to my noisy neighbors.  Not having to run outside and yank clothes off the line because it started to rain.  No tornado warnings. Of course, Christmas, but I would have to say my favorite part of winter is: WHEN IT IS OVER!  These are the plants I showed last week, poking through the snow.  There is hope!

Vintage Valentines

It's a tad depressing when your own childhood Valentines can be called "vintage," but it's true in my case.  My mom saved these (good for her) so every February I set out a few.  Here is a sampling, in no special order:

A larger one, this was from a cousin who actually wore her hair like this at one time!

Ya gotta love a beatnik cat!

 Kind of an Easter crossover.

And what's an old Valentine without a bad pun??

This one and the Eskimo above are glittered.

Possibly my favorite; this one I put out every year.

C Is For Curious

So Artful Challenges presented a challenge of "Curiosity in Rust and Turquoise." Hmm.  What would you come up with?  Here is my submission, an ATC*:

Both the "C" and the cat are from The Graphics Fairy.  I added a little turquoise to both with a Sharpie marker.  The "fringe" is frayed burlap.

*In case you don't know, ATC stands for Artist Trading Card.  They are mini works of art, created on 2 1/2" x  3 1/2" pieces of paper or board.  Any media or mixed is acceptable.  They are intended to be traded between artists.  I have been making a lot of these lately and intend to post about them sooner or later.  Hang on.

Enjoy!

Wacky Answer

So did everyone know yesterday's (2-6-13) Wackys?  Hungry Jack pancake mix still seems to be with us-- I just make pancakes from scratch, but the biscuits??  Have you seen them in your grocery store?  If I want biscuits, I make them from scratch too.  I buy refrigerated biscuits to make donuts.  Cut a hole in the center with a metal thimble, fry the biscuits and holes in melted crisco until brown.  I frost with chocolate icing; some folks like them plain, and some like them tossed in a sack with sugar and a dash of cinnamon.  Really good.  No, this is not a health conscious recipe.  It's a let's eat something evil recipe.

Silver Anniversary Card

The current challenge at Eclectic Ellapu is to make a card for a milestone anniversary.  A cousin of mine will be celebrating 25 years of marriage later this year.

And, yes, I have an anecdote about this.  I thought for sure my cousin told me 2012 was her 25th anniversary so I sent her and her husband a (store bought) card last year.  Then about a month ago, she mentioned they were planning a trip for their 25th anniversary.  Whoa!  What?!  I thought last year was the 25th!  No, she assured me it's this year.  She could have told me I was so stupid!  She said, "Well, when your card showed up, I got out the calculator.  I thought I was wrong!"

So anyway, I was glad to have a chance to send her a card for the correct year!

Wacky Wednesday

A "twofer" this week.  Since these Wackys have the same brand name, I decided to show them together.  I'm sure you'll recognize the top one; the bottom one I'm not so sure.  I read this product is hard to find recently.  To be honest, I buy the house brand so don't really know.  Maybe one of you know if it's still available.

TT/Letter E

The Letter E today at Tag Tuesday.  For my series, I chose the dashing Errol Flynn. Born in Tasmania, he had quite the varied life before finding Hollywood.  Lucky for fans he did find it!

Enjoy!
