Wacky Pack Wednesday

Everyone should recognize this week's Wacky Pack even though the wrapper has changed quite a lot. Do you remember 3 Musketeers bars in a white wrapper and three musketeers represented on the front? You just can't count on anything these days. I bet you don't remember the candy was actually three separate bars in one package: chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.  My mother told me that years ago. She was right. The candy was first produced that way in 1932, but costs and sugar restrictions during WWII made them change it to just one chocolate bar. There's your trivia for today.

Have a good one!

UPDATE: It dawned on me at about 9 a.m. that I should have posted this yesterday! DUH! I knew yesterday was Wednesday and today was Thursday; I'm beginning to worry about myself. LOL. Sorry for any confusion I caused.

1967 Home Accessories

Looking for some home accessories from 1967? No, well, that's what the Sears catalog has to show us today. How about some rather mod lighting?

Speaking of mod...

At the other end, we have colonial type kitchen accessories. Would you believe my dad has a similar chalk/bulletin board still hanging in his kitchen-- and it is still used! It looks exactly the same except the chalk side is on the right.

Pretty stylish dinnerware.

Thanks for dropping by!

Nesting Time

Who among you remembers three years ago I wrote a post about robins nesting on the side of my house? Anyone? Do I hear crickets and see tumbleweeds blowing by? Well, see this post and this one if you're interested.  Here is a photo from three years ago:

And look what we have today:

I wonder if they are related to the 2012 family. And what is so appealing about this spot?

Have a nice day!

Mini Memory Books

Remember the recent post about the thrifted Memory game? I did use some of the cards on small blank books I made. What do you think?

My first thought was to use the cards as the covers, but the way the books are constructed, the spine would have covered too much of the design. So I made the books as I normally do then attached a card to the front cover. Worked out pretty well.

Thanks for looking today!

Flower Pics

Since it is so nice to see blooms this time of year, after what always seems like a long winter, I just wanted to post some pretty shots.  Enjoy!

Have a wonderful day!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Another Wacky Pack representing good ol' 1973 this week. Everyone knows Ragu pasta sauce, right? I admit, I'm a spaghetti sauce snob and prefer my own sauce, but there is something to be said for opening a jar and heating.

Have a nice day!

Thrifted Memories

The latest finds include two old games. This some what beat up Memory game does hold a lot of memories for me. We played it a lot when I was a kid. I have another set that I also found second-hand. This one I intended to sell (it's incomplete) but I noticed they're not going for as much as I thought, or as much as they used to. So I think I see some craft projects in its future instead.

I also found a very loved Spill and Spell game. Will be selling the dice.

I picked up three old books- a Gregg shorthand, a Dana Girls mystery, and The Egg and I (ever see the movie?). The vase is hand blown crackle glass. My sister has one like it in blue that belonged to our mother. Must be from the early 60s.

And a pretty neat old tea towel.
Thanks for stopping by!

The Nest Book

Here is another of my children's books that I thought appropriate for this time of year. The Nest Book which is a Golden Shape Book and was published in 1968.

It illustrates where different animals live-- in a rhyming verse that is not apparent here since I'm not showing all the pages; sorry.

This was my favorite picture in the book.

29 cents, eh? Can't even buy a postage stamp for that today!

Have a good day in your nest!

Do You See It?

My daughter spied this one sunny afternoon. The shadows on this rock seem to spell out "LIFE." Rather cryptic...

Enjoy!

Lost and Found Paper

The current theme at Shopping Our Stash is "Lost and Found." The idea is to use materials that you misplaced or forgot about over time. The scrapbook paper below was lost to me for several months. I bought two sheets, mainly because it was on sale, and gave one to my daughter. I sort of forgot about mine, and when I did remember it, I couldn't find it which is pretty unusual for me. I looked through all my paper but still didn't come across it. I gave up until now and decided this was a good excuse to hunt it down. Anyway, without too much searching, I found it in with my daughter's paper stash; she had both sheets.

So here is what I made with a couple images from the paper-- a blank book for myself. This is the front cover.

In addition to white, I used a few decorative papers too.

Thanks to Shopping Our Stash for helping me unearth that missing paper and make something with it!

Have a nice weekend!

Estate Sale Finds

The first estate sale of the year for me-- a pretty packed house and basement, but I didn't walk away with too much. A set of cups, four mice, a small frame, two flower frogs, a folding yardstick, and two books. The zebra covered book is a 1974 Brookfield Zoo guide and the red cover is a Rudyard Kipling poetry book.

The mice on the left are rubber. My grandmother had a couple critters very similar to these on her kitchen window sill for years; unfortunately they sort of fell apart, but these mice sure took me back when I saw them. The two on the left were made in Sweden and are wood. Food/cheese picks, I'd say.

Some vintage Christmas cards with neat designs. Also two small stockings still on the original card.

Let's look at those 1974 zoo admission prices-- parking, one dollar; adults, one dollar; children under 15, free with an adult.  Okay-- what about today's prices??? Parking, ten dollars; adults, 16.95; children 3-11 years old, 11.95. Gulp.

Thanks for stopping by!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

I guess I bought a lot of Wackys in 1973 because this one was made then too. Gulden's mustard has been around since 1862! Wow. Is it me or does the man look like a caricature of Ray Walston? If you're thinking, "Ray who?" Think: My Favorite Martian.

Enjoy!

More Smashed Songs

My Smash book for songs got some attention recently. Here's the latest:

Yes, more Zeppelin; maybe I should have just made a Zeppelin Smash book. The big raindrops were preprinted in the book. I didn't remember that when I thought to do this song; what luck!

If you don't know that is Jimmy Page playing the guitar, you have my utmost sympathy.

Hey, a "non-Zeppelin" song! Yes, I do listen to other bands on occasion.
Have a smashing good day!

A Few More Finds for April

April is definitely being more generous than March when it comes to second-hand finds. Here's the latest: a small frame that I needed, a cedar box, a cute Wonder book, and two pottery wall pockets.

The wall pockets are signed and look rather 1970s to me-- that ecology movement thing that no one talks about anymore.

The Wonder book is very cute. Different too-- on the right page below are pictures to cut out and place in the book. Never saw that before. And I don't think mothers dress like this today to pick up kids from school.

The back of the book is unusual too-- there is space to draw or write with a crayon which could be wiped off.

Have a nice day!
