ICAD Winding Down June

Can it really be the end of June? I'm not ready for that! Here are the latest ICAD creations.

An ode to inchies. The "Home & Yard" inchie is a real inchie I made and glued to the card. The others were drawn right on the card.

I followed the prompt "botanic" for this card, using old images and text along with a newer catalog photo and scrapbook paper.

Hmm... how do I explain this one? I cut out some interesting windows from an old magazine, added some vintage book text, and drew some Native American designs (I have a reference book). That's it-- no other explanation.

I guess I was on "collage mode" this week. Here is another. Watercolor background and paper scraps.

The background for this one is a catalog clipping of book spines. I used markers for the flowers.

Well, on to July! Thanks for looking.

A Good Estate Sale-- Finally!

It has been much too long since I went to a good estate sale, but I finally did just that last weekend. Let's see what I bought...

Some Swiss straw flowers from years gone by, chenille stems for crafting, and two never used bookmarks.

An old set of those coasters you put over your glass, in good condition too. A never used package of inflatable hangers (too fun!), and what is the red and white polka dot fabric? It's an apron-- looks very "I Love Lucy" to me.

A vintage (of course) tin box, two noise makers, and a straw flower pillar-paperweight-statue thing (not sure how I will title that on Etsy).

Two very old ledger books. The "Cash" one has only a couple pages used, and the "Day" one is almost full and dated from the early 20s. A Girls Scout songbook from 1949, library due date cards, air mail envelopes, a never used deck of miniature playing cards, and two postcard folders.

These teeny items are in the first photo, on the left. About an inch to an inch and a half big, they are old craft pieces, although, you can see the one still in the package is a party favor-- get the book title? Cute.

So finally a decent sale. I was beginning to lose faith! Thanks for stopping by!

Mad With Inchies

Someone around here keeps making inchies. I guess that would be me!

A few of them might look like I didn't do much other than cut out a picture, but there is marker and watercolor on some. Hard to tell when viewing on screen.

I picked up a sheet of stickers from the "free with any purchase" bin at a thrift store (yes, I made a purchase) and used the cats and dogs on it to make these.

Enjoy your day!

ICAD The Next Installment

Yes, it's time for another ICAD update. Are we thrilled?? Up first is just some designs. The old dictionary text background received a light coat of gesso because it was competing too much with the green frames. And the green frames were cut from a scrapbook paper. The doodling was added with markers.

It's been quite awhile since I used one of the prompts. This was "color wheel." As you can see, mine are a little non-traditional. I cut out illustrations from an old machinists' book and colored them in with markers. The background is scrapbook paper, washi tape, and markers.

I decided to commemorate the first day of summer with a little scrapbook paper and markers.

And since I made the above card, I was a day late with the prompt "1970s." Oh well. I cut images from 70s greeting cards, wrapping paper, and a craft magazine. I added some doodads with markers, and believe it or not, I have a rubber stamp from the 70s. Picked it up at an estate sale a few years ago. That is what I have been using to stamp the days on these cards. Here I was able to use the years.

This card makes another day late (and another dollar short). The two cards above pushed this prompt to the next day too. Can you guess what it was? "Psychedelic." Right up my alley; this is probably my favorite card to date. That is a real postage stamp in the upper right corner. All the rest was drawn with markers.
Have a groovy day!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

After last's weeks Hawaiian Punks, I'll show the newer and less violent Wacky version of Hawaiian Punch today. Hawaiian Pants even uses the modern plastic bottle. Might be a bit tricky to get them out, eh?
Have a good day!

1967 Nighties

Let's look at the Sears catalog for some dreamy nightgowns today. Very feminine which is more than I can say for most of today's T-shirty styles.

Matching curler cap? Don't see those these days!

Cute sleeves on the right.

I don't know about these loungers being lively, but they do look comfortable. I remember similar garments being called "house dresses."

Hmm... now I feel like getting comfy. How about you??  Thanks for reading!

ICAD For The Middle of June

Can June be more than half over already? It doesn't seem possible, but here are the ICAD cards I made since my last ICAD post so I guess that proves it.

This first one is scraps from the mail art envelopes I make, the painted magazine pages. I added the words and envelopes with markers.

This is a collage of newer catalog clippings. I drew in "Bluebird" with a marker. Just for the record, that is a Mountain Bluebird.

I was going through some smaller pieces of scrapbook paper I have and came across the denim with the flowers. I decided to play that up and make a sort of 70s denim look card. The other flowers and stitch lines I added with markers.

This is an ode to the rainy weather we've had lately. Last year was a very wet June, and this year is a even a little worse. The landscape was cut from a magazine. I added the raindrops and all the text.

A black and white illustration from an old sewing book received a snazzy update with my markers.

These June days are really flying by! I hope the summer doesn't disappear in a blink!

Have a nice day out there!

Scant Finds

The thrift finds still have been elusive around here lately. Here is the latest "mini haul."

A pair of old tin coasters. Cute cat design.

A 70s lucite spoon rest.

A big lot of foreign postage stamps which are great for collage projects. This lot was so big that I split it up and put about half in my Etsy shop.

A metal souvenir tray and some pretty old postcards.

That's it for now!  Thanks for viewing.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

This week's Wacky is an easy one. Do you remember when Hawaiian Punch came in cans? I do. We never had it very often; not sure why that was, but I thought it was so good when I got some.

Thanks for viewing!

Just A Photo (Or Two) #9

A big hunk of mossy bark fell off this stump recently. Just thought it was interesting.

See this old post if you're wondering about the tree that once was.

Thanks for viewing!

Second ICAD Installemt

Time to catch up with ICAD. This first card is just a strip of scrapbook paper. The design was black and white; I added color with markers.

This one came about because I had cut out the veggie pictures for another project a couple weeks earlier but changed my mind and didn't use them. So I put them to use here. Coincidentally, the prompt for this day was "carrot and lemon."

There's no rhyme or reason to this one; I just wanted to use the scrapbook paper of the houses (on the left). I added some ephemera and drew in some more trees and houses.

The tree image below is a tape transfer of a magazine picture. That gives it the transparent effect. The background is watercolors.

I've had these mushroom images in my stash for years-- I wanted to finally put them to use!

This one qualifies for the "less is more" school of thought or maybe "stop now before you goof it up." I had intended to draw an entire lake scene, but after I did the weedy grasses in front, I decided to quit while I was ahead. The background is watercolors.

Thanks for looking!

Outdoorsy Stuff

I have some interesting although unrelated outdoors stuff to share today. First up is my snow-on-the-mountain plant. It was given to me by a friend many years ago and does quite well every year.

My daughter's toad house with a new resident.

Remember the robin's nest I showed awhile back? They had two babies.

Just a few days ago, we found the nest on the ground. Don't worry-- the babies were out on their own by then, and we hadn't seen any activity there for a couple weeks. Amazing construction!

The next two photos were taken at dusk one slightly stormy evening. These weren't tinkered with in any way. I've never seen clouds like these before. It appeared to be the "bottoms" of big clouds that were highlighted by the setting sun. They resembled big bubbles hanging up there.

Happy weekend, everyone!
