Printer Tray

I finished the printer tray in rather quick fashion.  What fun!  Now all I need is a new wall to hang it on!

Just starting

Getting there

All done

I didn't really go with any particular theme; just "stuff" I liked together.  Most of the backgrounds and paper elements are scrapbook paper (what those clever companies don't make!).  The "bits and bobs" are things I had around the house. The dog postage stamp collage in the upper left is mounted onto a domino.  The two mushrooms in the upper right my sister made from rocks years ago.  The pen points are old and don't work too well anymore so I didn't mind using them here.  The key is from my antiquated house; for which door, I have no idea.  The tiny clock face in the lower right is actually a button!

Where would us modern day crafters be without the invention of the glue gun?  And I only burned myself once!

Girl Vase

This is an old piece-- 1940s, I think.  My grandfather bought it for my grandmother while vacationing in California.  My aunt had it for the last 25 or so years, and she recently gave it to me.  There are no markings on it-- just sweet!

Wacky Answer

Everybody knew yesterday's Wacky (9-26-12) as Dawn dish soap, but did you know it has been around since 1973 and has been used to remove oil from birds after oil spills?  See, you can learn something new everyday.

Love Street

My first (and probably not last) Doors mini collage.  Obviously the song is "Love Street."  Amazing the images floating around the internet.  The roses are cut from a very old, somewhat falling apart, Better Homes & Gardens Garden Book that I picked up at a garage sale for 10 cents.  Now there's a real bargain!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

This Wacky Package shouldn't challenge too many people out there.  This product is still among us and has been around for quite a long time now.  It might even be in your kitchen!

TT/Clocks

Tag Tuesday's theme of "clocks" this week was a breeze as I happen to have a lot of clock faces in my paper stash.  They are quite popular with altered artists (hmm... that doesn't sound right.  You know what I mean).  So I just pulled out elements that I thought looked good together.  This is also the first time I used vellum paper.  A bit hard to see, but there are pocket watches printed on it.  I was pleased with the effect.

Extra Thrifty Thrift Find

The moon must have been blue on Wednesday because I found this at my local secondhand store.

Notice the price?

Notice the original price?

WOW!  I actually let out a small gasp when I saw it!  Now I need to come up with a theme!

Owl Art

Oh, yes, yet another owl post.  Here are two owl pieces that I made.  The tag below I finished just a few days ago.  Guess I was really inspired by Tag Tuesday this week.

This collage I made about a year ago.  It was one of my first ventures into paper crafting.  Looks like I was a little heavy handed with the glue gun.  Would you believe the gun I use was my mother's and is over 25 years old?

Wacky Answer

How many of you knew yesterday's (9-19-12) Wacky Pack right off the bat?  White Owl cigars, right?  Their beautiful Snowy Owl logo is a bit more dignified than the White Fowl logo, don't ya think?

Owl Trivet

I planned to share my owl trivets here and there, and since this week has been all about owls, I thought I might as well post one now.  This is a Howard Holt design I bought fairly cheaply on Ebay 10 or so years ago.  It hangs out on a kitchen wall with its trivet-y friends.  I do occasionally use one for its intended purpose.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Since there seems to be an owl theme floating around blogland this week, I decided to keep it going with this Wacky Pack.  That being said, you probably won't have much trouble figuring it out.

TT/Owls

The "owls" theme at Tag Tuesday this week had all sorts of possibilities.  Owls are regaining popularity these days which I kind of hate to see as I remember the first go around in the 70s!  That means I'm old enough to see a trend repeat!  Ugh!  Well, I'm off the point.  Thinking of the dearly departed 70s and macrame owls (see yesterday's post), I found a pattern for a mini one-- it's really supposed to be a necklace.

In case there are any skeptics out there, it really is tag size.

So how many repeat trends can you think of?

Macrame Owls

Most of you probably remember macrame as a popular craft in the 1970s.  I have a mini collection hanging on my front porch.  The first one was made by sister just a few years ago.  She even made the "beads" out of paper mache.

This one I made probably in the mid to late 70s.  I had a few macrame projects to my credit, and my mom wanted an owl so I made this for her.

This is my most recent acquisition from a local estate sale this summer.  Three bucks.

This extra large fellow (about five feet long!) was at a thrift store a few years ago, also three dollars.  I walked by it a few times, thought, "Where would I put it?" and left the store without it.  The next day I went back, and it was still there.  Glad I went back.

These pictures are a good hint at my tag for Tag Tuesday tomorrow.  Stay tuned!

This House Is For The Birds

This birdhouse is in my neighbors' yard, but it is very close to the fence line.  Earlier this year, I happened on this sparrow surveying his roost.

Recently I shot these flowers in front.  Just thought it was pretty.

Enjoy (your neighbors' yard)!

She Crossed A Line

When I parked my car in a store lot recently, this ticket was laying in some nearby weeds.  I thought it might make a cool addition to some future collage.  So I brought it home.

Guess I'm a serious paper artist now-- or a little nutty.  Probably both!  If I ever use it, I'll let you know.

Wacky Answer

I'm sure all of you chocolate lovers out there (myself included) recognized Betty Crocker fudge brownie mix as yesterday's (9-12-12) Wacky Package.  I must admit I don't really remember that style box.  Do you?

A Glut of Tags

See what happens when you buy new scrapbook papers because they're kinda cute?
The papers are by Crate Paper.  The tags are by me.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

This Wacky Pack should be easy to figure out even though the packaging has changed over the years.  Do you remember the 70s style that harkened back to the early 1900s?

TT/Autumn Fruits and Berries

I got a little carried away with Tag Tuesday this week.  Since "canning" was a suggestion for the "Autumn Fruits and Berries" theme, I thought of my grandmother's apple butter.  Personally, I was never a fan, but most everyone else liked it.  I have a few old jar lids for crafting purposes so decided to incorporate that into my tag.  Here are the results:

I don't think my grandma was vain about her age, but in her defense, I better explain she probably was not canning in 1912-- a little young.  I just made that up to look "vintage."

So do you like apple butter?

Clothespin Man

My sister had a set of these kooky clothespin men in the early 70s.  I really don't know if they were intended to use as clothespins; you know, the two times in your childhood when you got ambitious on a hot summer day and washed your doll clothes.  Or are they just to "play" with?  At any rate, a few have survived, and my sister gave one to me.  How nice.

1971 Fashions

I bought this 1971 magazine recently.  I wouldn't be surprised if my mom bought a copy in 1971!

Shirley Jones a.k.a. Shirley Partridge on the cover

Faux fur hot pants??  Fortunately, I missed out on this trend.

Interesting

My father wouldn't have been caught dead in a patchwork vest!

The very cute David Cassidy.  Pretty sure that vest never made it to a "Partridge Family" episode.

WOW!!

How mod!

Tangerine

I won't deliver a sermon on the epic band Led Zeppelin-- aren't you glad?  One of my favorite Zeppelin tunes is "Tangerine," a ballad.  My little collage is a lot more cheerful than the song; I tried to capture the era more so.  Maybe someday I'll make "Tangerine II" and focus on the lyrics.  And I decided to post before summer is nothing but a memory.

Glory!

With this ultra-hot summer, most of my flowers did not do too well.  There was one exception: morning glories. First time I've planted them.

The vines went nuts.

But only recently have there been blooms.  My neighbor asked, "When are you going to turn on the morning glories?"  Well, they are finally "on!"

Wacky Answer

You're probably not alone if you don't remember Bozo gumballs; they haven't been around since the 70s. That was yesterday's (9-5-12) Wacky Pack, although I pretty much gave it away with the Bozo tag the day before.  I vaguely remember Bozo gumballs, but never liking gumballs, never bought any.  Did you?

From Soup to Nuts

Have you seen these?

Campbell's tomato soup with Andy Warhol labels.  Too cool.  So is it me or do companies not have promos like this anymore?  How nice to liven up an ordinary item.  Makes life a bit more interesting.

And for the "nuts" part of this post: do you live near a walnut tree?  No?  Consider yourself lucky!

Enjoy and have you had your 15 minutes of fame?  I'm still waiting for mine!

Might be a test for your memory!

TT/Circus

"Circus" is the last "fun" theme in the recent series at Tag Tuesday.  For those of you not raised in Chicago, you might not appreciate this tag, but if you were, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. "Bozo's Circus" was THE kids' TV show of the 60s and 70s.  Studio audience tickets were sold out years in advance.  My sister once went with neighbors-- I never did.  Boo hoo.  Anyway, it was on TV forever, and everybody watched.  So here is my circus tag, featuring Bozo himself, Mr. Bob Bell.

As a footnote, Dan Castelleneta, of "The Simpsons" fame, has said he used Bob Bell's Bozo as inspiration for his Krusty the Clown voice.

Enjoy!

P.S. If you're wondering about the clown doll, see my very first post.

Labor Day 2012

Since Labor Day means the end of summer, here is a very autumn looking postcard.

The back is inscribed: "To Walter from Esther 1912."  Wow-- 100 years ago!

Enjoy your holiday!
