Halloween 2015

Can it really be Halloween and the last day of October? I guess so. Have a fun day!

Comments are off today. I get a ton of trick-or-treaters!

Friday Favorite

I'll be honest, lately I've been running out of blog posts. I won't bore you with the hows and whys, but I've been needing some ideas. So I thought on Fridays (until I run out of ideas for this) I'll ask readers what their favorite "blank" is. With Halloween right around the corner, this week's question: What is your favorite holiday??? Halloween??

Christmas??

Easter? Thanksgiving? Mother's Day? No favorite? Don't celebrate? Whatever your answer, share it in the comments. Thanks for participating!

My favorite? If I had to chose, I'd say Easter. I like the colors. I like dyeing eggs. I like Easter baskets. I like Peeps...

Happy All Hallow's Eve Eve!

Masters of Starlight

It's been so long since I showed any of my film star books that I'm not sure if I ever showed this one before. If so, I'm almost certain I did not show these photos. So without further adieu, I give you Masters of Starlight which was published in 1987. A heavy, coffee table type volume... That is Mary Pickford on the cover.

Lillian Gish from a movie called Broken Blossoms, 1919

Rudolph Valentino and Natacha Rambova in 1923

Hedy Lamarr in 1940

Jean Harlow, 1937; notice the old cars in the background.

Mostly black and white, there are some color photos. Claudette Colbert as Cleopatra, 1934. A rather daring bodice, Claudette!

Elizabeth Taylor on the set of Giant, 1956

Gary Cooper in 1942; lots of smoking going on in much of these photos.

Thanks for popping in!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

A sort of Halloweenish Wacky Pack this week. Boy, Toucan Sam looks awfully evil here-- maybe it's his twin!

Have a fun day!

Collage ATCs

I haven't made any ATCs in quite awhile. When I had a bug to make some collages I thought ATCs would be a good size to get my feet wet so to speak. I, obviously, do a lot with paper art but not so much true collage. I wanted to cut, tear, and paste in a quick and simple manner. Here are the results.

Yes, my two pups.

I did enjoy it and will definitely be making more. Now what I'm going to do with these??? No clue.

Have a fun day!

Thrifts Today

Yes, I am showing some recent thrift finds today. Someone gave up an older collection of dog figurines. These were the cream of the crop. And what is the ultra mod box in the background?

That box is the mailing box for this calendar towel. I like the box better than the towel! Just think, that towel has probably been rolled up in its box for over 40 years.

I also picked up a finished needlework piece.
Thanks for popping in today!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

A familiar product is being spoofed on this week's Wacky. I'm sure we all recognize Miracle Whip. It goes back to 1933, and was debuted at the Chicago World's Fair of that same year. Who knew?

Enjoy!

Fall

I usually do a post in October of the Fall color in my neck of the woods, but this year is a little lacking. We're heading to the end of the month, and I don't have much to show. A few trees are turning...

Most of the flowers are spent...

But there are a few diehards...

One of these days all the branches will be bare, and it will seem like a long time before color makes its way back.

Enjoy your day!

Twinchies-- It's Been Awhile

It's been quite awhile since I made any twinchies (2" x 2"). I decided it was high time so here are the latest creations.

The one on the right is sort of a nod to my mother. We had the same coffee canister at home, and I think she used it every day of her married life. I found the ad in one of those old McCall's magazines. $2.50, including shipping!

The cats below and the girl in the next photo were an experiment in scanning. I printed the images on old book pages. Kinda neat. I would try it again.

Thanks for stopping by-- have a great day!

Mail Art Envelopes-- A Little Different

I have shown my mail art envelopes here before, but these are a little different. I did not paint the pages as I have in the past. These are simply folded up pages from magazines, catalogs, and old calendars. I added some stickers, rubber stamps, etc. Quick and easy!

I'll be looking at old magazines a little differently from now on! Thanks for viewing.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Who doesn't know ChapStick? I think I use it every day. The original formula goes back to the 1880s.

Have a nice day out there!

Pink Christmas

Since it is October, Jingle Belles is asking for Christmas card creations, using pink. For every card linked to their post, they will donate $2.00 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Pretty nifty, don't you think? I came up with five cards over the weekend.

Sorry if the one on the right looks more red than pink. The pink in the reddish background is a darker hue, and the pinks in the candy canes didn't show up too well on screen.

Got some time on your hands? Make a pink Xmas card and link up!  Thanks to Jingle Belles!

More McCall's

Today we're looking at the McCall's Needlework and Crafts magazine Fall-Winter 1964-65. Cute cover. I don't think my dad ever held yarn for my mother. I remember her looping it over the back of a chair to wind it.

I think the woman on the left stole somebody's afghan.

Who knew yarn could be elegant?

How about that fringe?? It does look warm!

Cute infant accessories

Some mod fiber art. These were made by artists.

Barbie and Ken winter fashions

Do you think we'd ever see such a sweet ad in a magazine today?

I had to include this off-beat ad. My eleven-year-old thought the woman's expression was hysterical.

Thanks for stopping by!
