Vintage Inchies

This batch of inchies was made solely from a 1960s craft magazine. Just one magazine too. Kind of challenging, kind of fun.

Have a creative day!

Friday Favorite

Since today is Black Friday (I'm a little weary of that term-- how about you?), I'm asking: What is your favorite thing to shop for? Here are a few ideas to get your brain going. Groceries?

Cards?

Fabric, craft supplies?

Paint, home improvement items?

Plants, gardening needs?

Holiday stuff?

Or maybe gifts, clothing, shoes, cars? So do tell!

Me-- no surprise, I would say craft stuff, scrapbook paper, etc.

Have a good weekend!

Thanksgiving 2015

Happy Thanksgiving!  However you celebrate, or even if you don't, have a great day!!

Comments are off today.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Here is an unusual Wacky; it is spoofing a credit card of all things. How many of you remember Master Charge as opposed to today's MasterCard? The name was changed in 1979, not too long after this Wacky came out.

Yes, I covered part of my 1970s signature with a little leaf. Why a leaf? Best reason in the world, it was handy.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

First Snow of the Season

Friday night and all day Saturday we had our first snowfall of the season. And it was a "good" one too; about five inches for us which was on the low side. Some areas had as much as seventeen inches! Chicagoland set a new record for the biggest first snowfall.

This was shot Saturday morning. You can see our jack-o-lantern from Halloween in the upper right corner.

Here is the same shot Sunday morning-- where'd that jack-o-lantern go??

So what do you do when the weather outside is frightful? Stay in and make Christmas tags while listening to Christmas music.

Hope your weekend weather was more tolerable! Have a good day!

Friday Favorite

Last Friday I asked what is your favorite fruit. So this week, let's give veggies their turn. What is your favorite vegetable? Peas?

Potatoes?

Carrots?

Beans? Corn? Brussels sprouts (eww)? Potatoes get my vote. I like them a number of different ways: potato salad, soup, mashed, and yes, french fries too! So what is your favorite veggie?

Have a healthful day!

Some Xmas Finds and One Estate Sale

The vintage Christmas finds have really run dry in my area over the last few years. What I see is mostly 1980s and 90s stuff (I'll restrain myself from using the word "junk"). I did find these kitschy (I'll restrain myself from using the word "junky") Christmas mugs, made in Hong Kong. The jumping jack Santa pin is marked "made in China" so that very well could fall into the 80s/90s category. The unused Christmas pencils are most certainly newish, and will make cheap but useful stocking stuffers.

I also went to an estate sale and found a 1970s Christmas book. The other items of note are two Hong Kong postcard books, a 1933 Nancy Drew type book, and some Hallmark owl notecards. The owls didn't show up too well-- hot pink and white!

The photos in the postcards books are really nice.

That Christmas book is geared at children. It talks about Christmas traditions as well as shows crafts.

Thanks for stopping by!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

I think we can all guess Chicken of the Sea tuna, right? There is still a mermaid on the label, but her image is smaller, and she doesn't look seasick ;)

Hope you have smooth waters today!

Pattern Girls Once Again

I made a few note cards last week featuring models cut from vintage patterns. Those old styles are fun to relive even if you're glad they're gone!

Thanks for popping in today!

Holiday Printer's Tray

Does anyone remember the 7 Gypsies printer's tray I picked up at a thrift store earlier this year? Here it is all decorated by me and my daughter. "Holidays" was my daughter's idea. Each "compartment" represents a different holiday throughout the year. It was also her idea that we each do a certain holiday instead of working jointly on each one. So here it is... tah dah!!

I won't mind a compliment or two on the tiny red gift bag I made-- that was a pain! The little ice bucket and bottle in the lower right of the New Year's display is a very old gumball machine prize I've had for decades. Come to think of it-- an ice bucket with presumably a bottle of champagne? Weird gumball prize!

The plastic hearts on the Valentine's square and the "USA" and stars in the 4th of July square were cut from cheapy kids' necklaces.

I think my favorite element in the whole tray is the little spider up in the right corner. That is a knotted snip of bulky black yarn and two seed beads glued on. I raided my dollhouse for the mini canned goods and muffin tin on the bottom of the Thanksgiving square.

The Christmas display is an older ATC I made that my daughter doctored up in her own way. The last square is supposed to represent birthdays.

You can't say it's not colorful! And it was fun to make. I'm not looking forward to dusting this however. Might be a job for canned air.

Thanks for looking!

Friday Favorite

It's Friday so today I'm asking: what is your favorite fruit? Just wash and eat, not a pie or anything. Grapes?

Apples? Pears?

Oranges? Bananas? I would have to say "red grapes--" if they are not mushy! In fact, I have an odd palate; I like ALL fruit hard and slightly underripe. I know-- weird-o!

Have a fruitful weekend!

Howdy, Pardner!

Shopping Our Stash has a fun theme running that I couldn't pass up. Western. As much as I love that theme I don't have a lot of horsey type elements in my stash; probably because they really don't make a lot of that (otherwise I'd have it!). I did create two note cards. Up first is an illustration from an old school reader.

This one is almost all scrapbook papers. The text at the top belongs to the illustration above, but I used it here instead.

Thanks for looking!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Hires root beer goes back to 1876, and sassafras root beverages go back to the 16th century. Wow. Do you like root beer? Black cows??

Happy Veterans Day!

Some Finds

I hit one estate sale a couple weeks ago. I didn't get much, but here is the haul.

The old dog statues seem to be finding me lately which is fine with me. A cute, made in Taiwan Easter decoration, and a little bunny (my MIL collects rabbits).

Let's look in the Yosemite book. As you can imagine, there are lots of wonderful shots. This book was published by National Geographic by the way.

Pretty amazing! I've never been there. Have any of you?

Thanks for dropping by today.

Finally Some Color

We finally saw quite a show of Fall color last week.

The hosta leaves are really yellow this year.

And there are still some die-hard blooms, believe it or not.  I'm sure this will be the last post of the year that features flowers.

Enjoy your day!
