Recent Finds

Well, I haven't posted any thrift finds lately because there hasn't been any!  No garage sales around here this time of year. No estate sales near me, and the thrift stores have been either closed for the holidays or horribly lame in merchandise. Last week, however, I did pick up a few things.

The "Love" tile is a trivet with a cork backing. I have no idea how old it is-- anybody have a guess? I don't know if it's from the "Love Story" era or more recent. The two glass jars are definitely old as is the frame and that modern looking silver thing-- know what it is??  Read on.

This metal (brass?) frame had the old-world looking picture in it. I forgot to take a picture before I slipped in a more neutral piece of scrapbook paper. Thought that might help it sell. If any one wants that picture-- it's yours. It's nothing special, just thin paper although probably pretty old. It's going in my collage stash where it will sit for a long time I imagine.

So here is that silver thing. It's a very MCM bell. Made in Germany in about the 1950s. I read the top is also a candle holder. Hmm... interesting. It was originally part of a set which included cocktail utensils.

So that's it around here for now. Hope the thrifts improve soon!

Enjoy!

  1. I love that beautiful frame! It would be pretty next to a stack of old books! Enjoy your day my friend! Hugs!

  2. That's definitely the Love Story logo colors, but I don't think they did the actual logo with the fonts like that. Pretty cool looking tho. I can't tell you how many times I've read that book. An oldie but a goodie. Now I have to go find the movie and watch it again. Box of Kleenex anyone?

  3. Wiki has a nifty article on the artist who started your LOVE design, Robert Indiana, including the stamp for the post office. If you get a chance, check it out. (I won't put a link because I always find them suspicious.) Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday!

  4. Thanks so much for stopping by. I KNOW what you mean. Thrifting has been very sparse in my part of Ontario. I am so looking forward to spring ;-)

  6. Well that is a very eclectic grouping! Love the frame and the jars and that German bell/candle holder is very unusual! I remember seeing the LOVE graphic 'back in the day' but no idea on the age of your find. Just went looking in our second hand shops for a wind up clock to alter (without any luck!) and the pickings were very slim here too. Hopefully the New Year organizing bug will hit people soon and the shops will fill up! Deb

  7. That is a beautiful frame, and at first look I thought the silver thing was a candle holder. I didn't know it had a bell hiding in it - too cool!
