Rollin' Rollin'...

Shopping Our Stash has a wide ranging theme this week.  "Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'" is the title. The idea is to use round shapes or something western (you know-- the theme from Rawhide that I've had stuck in my head ever since I read their post). So I did both. I was going to make some bookmarks for my Etsy shop anyway so I came up with two cowboys. The images are old game cards.

Both the round terrier and the hex sign are also from old playing cards that I cut out.

Smiley faces are definitely round. This, too, was cut from a playing card.

Are ovals considered round?  If not, ignore this one.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Wacky Packages is spoofing a book this week! How about that? I think we've all seen the "Dummies" books out there. The first one was computer related, published in 1991, and had nothing to do with mummies.

A Fungus Among Us

Some interesting fungus (okay, fungi) in my back yard earlier this summer.

The china shoe has a crack in it which is why I use it for outdoor decor.

Monday's Muster #40

This Halloween collection is newer-ish, and might have some of you rolling your eyes. Beanie Babies! I bought some back when they were hot and have added one here and there, and so have quite a few holiday beanies. Here are the Halloween variety.

The spider above on the left and the two below are the smaller size called Halloweenies.

Summer Sun LO

Scrapbook.com has monthly challenges running, and this month one of them is creating a layout without a picture. Rather challenging, I thought. Here is what I came up with.

Not A Creature Was Stirring

A new theme has been posted at Jingle Belles: Use a "creature" in your design. Every time I put away my Christmas supplies, I end up pulling them out again. Maybe this is it for this year (???). Up first is a simple card I made, using the image from the back of an old (probably 60s) Christmas card.

This one is mostly scrapbook paper elements. The bird repro postcard image has been in my stash so long I don't remember where it came from.

Jingles Belles raised $576 dollars for the Susan G. Koman Foundation with their Pink Christmas extravaganza.  Amazing!!

The Week In Thrifts

I had some luck at a couple thrift stores this past week. A set of Anne of Green Gables books in nice condition too (they sold on Ebay), and a cute Teddy bear book. I sort of hemmed and hawed over the plastic nativity scene, but it sold on Etsy within a couple days.  Wow.

A lot of metal type finds for some reason came home with me. A vintage canister set, a really cute measuring cup that looks like a mini pan, and a English candy box with a neat castle scene on the top. I also couldn't resist two old cards with super cute images.

Not bad. And I hate to point out that could very well be the last time I shoot finds outside this year. Oh no!

Fallish Color

Here in northern IL, autumn color hasn't taken hold yet. In my exact neck of the woods it's never too stunning-- dull trees, I guess, but here is a sampling from my yard and beyond.

There is still a lot of green which is fine with me.

Monday's Muster #39

Monday's Muster will be in the Halloween spirit for the next few weeks. Up first is a small collection of vintage Halloweenie type children's books. Most of these were published by Scholastic.

I was glad to finally acquire 13 Ghostly Tales earlier this year. I remember that very cool cover from my grade school days. The Haunted House has been mine since the 70s-- love that cover too.

These have also been mine since the 70s. If I remember rightly, both of these were handed down from some older neighbors of mine.

Spook was a garage sale find you might recall, and Nine Witch Tales was purchased new by me at the school bookmobile.

More spooky fun.

These two are newer purchases from Etsy and Ebay this year. The book on the left is where we got the idea for our haunted dollhouse. See the next photo.

I made some new tags recently which I have not done in quite a while. I have been busy with other projects, but I also haven't sold many in months which leads me to a question...

If you're in to paper crafts, what do you think about tag making? Still doing it? Never did it? Think it's passe?

If you're not in to paper crafts, have you ever bought one or received one? Like them? Never gave them much thought?

A Few Thrifts and One Estate Sale

We had crummy garage sale weather the weekend before last and none in my area at all this past weekend. The thrift stores didn't offer anything too exciting either. I did find some more old greeting cards.

This one looks rather dull...

Until you open it!

An old donkey and cart planter. There is an mark on the bottom, but it's worn too much to read. The beer stein is the real deal from Germany-- and it's heavy too. I researched the mark on that, and it was made between 1960 and 1990.

I went to one estate sale, on half price day.  Ya gotta love that; I guess a lot of people love that as it was the most crowded sale I've been to all year. There wasn't much of interest really, but I found some pretty old items.

These books are from the early part of the last century. And please notice I finally painted that outdoor table.

The two children's books on the right have some wonderful illustrations.

The rest of the haul consists of a a small Mason jar, a small wooden picture frame, and the contents of one box: a U.S. map puzzle, the lid to the puzzle, a few Bingo cards and wooden markers (there were quite a lot of markers, but I didn't show them all), and a few itty bitty print blocks-- see the next photo.

I didn't think the puzzle was that old!

And were all the pieces there? Would you believe one is missing?! Apologies to Georgia.

The garage and estate sales are definitely winding down for the year. The thrift stores will have to keep me entertained over the winter once again.
