More Finds

Between a couple thrifts stores and driving all over creation (well, town) to estate sales, I did come home with some nifty finds. Up first, old Royal Copley (I think) ivy vase. Not one but two metal recipe boxes-- found at different locations, and four 1970s stoneware dessert plates.

These little pots and saucers are marked Takahashi on the bottoms.  Very cute and very early-mid 70s looking.

Two hardback Peanuts books with very mod bright colors inside from 1965 and 1963.  Old Old maid (not a typo-- this is an old edition). Four boxes of rather vintagey birthday candles-- isn't it amazing what someone had in their house for decades?? And two cute bridge tallies; the smaller set it is unopened. I rest my case.

I knew of three estate sales in my area which is about three more than usual, and I came upon a fourth where I bought some things. Another was a bear to park at and had nothing I was interested which was good because items were overpriced. The other two-- never found one, the last had potted plants out front with price tags and a half open (or half closed?) garage door.  No people, no signs, no customers--- at 11 a.m. Weird.  Oh well, I bought enough as it was.

Happy hunting out there!

P.S. Pop over to my daughter's blog to see a 1930s children's cookbook I purchased at the above estate sale.  She decided she wanted it for her cookbook collection.

  2. Love your finds! I'm crazy about bridge tallies even though I don't play. And the Old Maid games. We bought a new bird cage for the parakeets this weekend, so I had to mind my thrifting ways. Next week my SIL is coming back for the weekend and we're already planning our Saturday.

  4. I swear those stoneware plates look exactly like my first set of dishes that I purchased in pieces as part of a promotion at the grocery store where I worked in the 70's. and I love those peanuts books. I don't believe I've ever seen hardcover ones like that.

  7. I was dumpster diving literally yesterday. I’d gone to the farmer’s corner for more peaches and spotted a market dumpster with an interesting cart beside it. A Coca Cola beverage cart with a tray for ice on the top and a shelf below. I remembered it set next the the register counter and have no idea why they got rid of it. It’s mine now. My best find; however, was your daughter’s blog. Diane, you must be so proud. She has inherited your good eye and talent. What lovely memories you both are making.
