From Bing to Kermit

Another mixed bag from the thrifts this week.  A very iconic (and slightly musty smelling-- hate that!) Bing Crosby Christmas album.  I actually have the same recording as a CD.  Very Christmas-y, for sure!

How about a Simpsons Qwik-E-Mart play set for ten cents?  Thought my daughter (and husband) might get a kick out of this.

Another purchase for the daughter.  This book looks like it was never read.

Vintage 1970s Muppet Show coffee mugs.  I generally try to stay away from breakable stuff to resell, but these are pretty cute and the finds have been very thin lately.

Did you watch The Muppet Show back in the 70s?  I did. Who was your favorite guest star? I might vote for Steve Martin or Mark Hamill.

Thanks for reading!

Dressing Up in 1967

Let's see what Sears offered in the way of dressy dresses in 1967. And, boy, am I glad these hairstyles went out.  Much too fussy for me.

I think the blue number looks a bit like a dressing gown.  What do you think?

Have a great weekend!

Not All Babies Are Cute

Lookie what was outside my back door a couple days ago.  Know what they are??

Yes, baby spiders.  They hung out here for a few days which I thought was a little strange. Guess it was a good spot.

I'll leave you on a less creepy note...

Have a good one!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Most folks will know this week's Wacky Package, I'm sure. Everyone has heard of Clark bars, right? They've been around since WWI, but I don't think I've ever had one! Are they good? Must be if they're still making them.

Happy Wednesday!

Inching Along

After making inchies for a paper challenge a little while ago, I had some inch square card stock leftover so I had to make more. Some of the images are little "puffy" stickers I received as part of a crafty Xmas gift. At the time, I thought, "What am I going to do with these? They're so little!"  Well, they work great on inchies!

Have a nice day!

Memorial Day 2014

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

However you observe and celebrate, enjoy!

Since it is a holiday, comments are off today, and "Monday's Muster" will be back next week.

A Few Finds

The thrifting finds were not many during the last week.  I went to two thrift stores and two garage sales, and this is it.  Although as rarely as I find a head vase, I'm pretty pleased. The Christmas looking thing on the left is a cookie tin, and the Beatrix Potter looking thing on the right is a ceramic bank for a nursery.

Okay all you vintage sellers, collectors, experts: how old do you think this magazine rack is?  It has definite wear to the finish.  It was very solidly made, but do the curved feet look more 80s or 90s to you?  Is it mid-century??  I saw the same rack for sale on Etsy, and the description states: circa 1970s. Hmm... I'm not convinced.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Have a nice circa 70s sort of day!

Smashing Music

I started a third Smash book recently. This one I plan to illustrate my favorite songs. So here is what I've accomplished so far. Some of you might be thinking, "Didn't she already do a Wish You Were Here collage?" Yes, I did one in my "Favorites" Smash book before I had this brainy idea (see it here), but when you have a scrapbook paper with "Wish You Were Here" already printed on it, what are ya gonna do?

Creeque Alley by The Mamas and Papas. That was the name of a club in the Virgin Islands. Read about the song here if you're curious.

I'm sure there are very few folks who know what the soundtrack to the 1966 remake of Stagecoach sounds like, but I think it's wonderful.

This probably won't be the last Led Zeppelin song included. The Battle of Evermore-- in case you can't decipher the fancy font.

Pretty fun so far!

Getting There

A lot of buds have popped up around here lately.  We had a hailstorm Tuesday night, and I was afraid I'd lose a lot of these, but most survived.

Peony-- notice the ant on the right side?

Iris

Poppy

Lots of poppies.

A few poppies are open.  Gorgeous!

Have a wonderful day!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

This might just be the oldest product to be spoofed by Wacky Packs. Unless you've been under a rock since 1852, you'll recognize this.

Smith Brothers cough drops were first made in 1852 and sold in the brothers' father's ice cream shop. They began selling the drops in branded packages in 1872. That must be a heckuva lotta cough drops in 162 years.

Enjoy!

Glamour

"Glamour" is the theme this week at Sunday Postcard Art. I don't think that's something I've ever been accused of owning, but this girl sure does. I found her in that bride magazine I bought a week or so ago.

Have a glamorous day!

Monday's Muster #20

The next several "Monday's Musters" will be all things Barbie. I decided to break it up since it is a lot to share. First up are the dolls themselves. These are the four Barbies I've had since childhood. They are, left to right, Quick Curl Kelly, Truly Scrumptious, Malibu Barbie, and Stacey.

These are also the original outfits they were wearing when purchased. Stacey had a pretty royal blue evening coat that did not hold up well in my dad's basement which was a dumb place to keep these. I know better now!

These are not Barbies, but what the heck-- left to right: Locket Kiddle Liz, Kiddle Kologne Rose, ??? (I don't remember the blonde one-- a Dawn doll knock-off of some sort), and Rock Flower Lilac. My Kiddle Kologne had the most wonderful rose scent for decades but no more. The Rock Flower doll came with a 45 record that I no longer have. I did have two Dawn dolls, but they turned green over time-- ick, which I hear is common with them.

For some reason I hung onto this little Barbie catalog that must have come with one of the dolls.

Noticed the check marks? I was marking what I wanted.

My sister had the blue and white tent. I still have the camper set on the bottom right-- will post soon.

Have a fun day!

Lilacs 2014

My lilacs are in full swing and smell heavenly! Last year I did not deadhead them for the first time, and they have more blooms than ever. So much for yard maintenance.

I have one white tree too which has most of its blooms atop.  We need to thin out some of the bigger branches.

Not to be outdone, one of my three honeysuckle bushes has a ton of flowers this year.  The bees love it.

Enjoy your day!

Colorful 1967 Linens

More Sears catalog goodness today. Oh, printed towels, where have you gone? And 92 cent towels, where have you gone???

Oh, colorful bedding where have...  You get the point.

I found it interesting these were called "bed ruffles." Years ago, they switched it to "dust ruffle."  Now it's usually "bed skirt." Whatever you call it, these look very nice.

Enjoy!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Hey, a new Wacky this week with a newer product. Hot Pockets were not around in the 1970s.  I read they were actually invented in the 70s but not produced until 1983. Wow, that's 31 years already!

Have a good day-- hop to it!

Monday's Muster #19

C'mon get happy, people! You have to smile when you see this week's collection. Vintage Partridge Family paperbacks. Here again, I still need to find more titles to make a complete set, and like most series it seems some titles are harder to find than others.

This is not part of the series, but I picked it up at an antique store many years ago. A Scholastic book, no less.

Inside, we have the two heartthrobs of the day, Bobby Sherman with D.C.

Now get that song out of your head and have a nice day!
