Wacky Pack Wednesday

A newer Wacky this week so everyone should recognize it and the packaging which has changed quite a bit since I was a kid (what hasn't, right?).

Have a blast!

TT/Travel

A very broad theme this week at Tag Tuesday: travel.  I bet we'll see some very interesting tags!  I used some scrapbook paper and old airline stationery.

Enjoy your travels today!

Too Early?

I never decorate for the holidays too early-- I get tired of the clutter and who wants to clean it any more than necessary? However, I just made some Halloween cards, tags, and ATCs because I was kind of out of any other craft ideas. So here is a sneak peak.

So now that you've had a taste of Fall, go enjoy a Sunday in July!

This Week's Finds Part 2

Here are a few more finds from a couple garage sales I stopped at last Saturday. A few of these items are already in my Etsy store. A very 70s looking flour canister, a 1950s wooden pineapple dish from Hawaii. A cute ceramic reindeer candle hugger, a Belleek salt cellar, and old nursery rhyme seal booklets.

As I was talking to the owner about this Belleek piece, I asked if it was a salt cellar. He said, "Just a little ring dish." I looked it up; I'm going with salt cellar.

Old camera outfit-- with the box, manual, and all.  Kinda neat.

I'm keeping that groovy flour canister.  It's in place in a dead corner of my kitchen counter.  No flour in it-- just for looks.  Remember what I said yesterday about being impractical??

Since The Thrifty Groove still has their link running, I might as well link up again.

Enjoy your weekend!

This Week's Finds

I'm linking to The Thrifty Groove today with some definitely thrifty finds from my local thrift store. Everything pictured cost $1.75 (excluding tax). Even I can afford that.

I bought the book to go on display in my patriotic bedroom. The scarf is in great condition and a Vera design. The dessert plates were manufactured by Vernon Kilns of California. They look like something my grandparents would have owned. That kitchen prayer plaque is not something I would usually buy, but I have seen them sell on Etsy so why not?

The book looks great in my room.  And here are some recipes I won't be trying: liver dumplings, tongue with raisin sauce, breaded frogs' legs, eel with green sauce... There are some "normal" sounding dishes: potato soup, cherry tart, pancakes in orange sauce, chocolate mousse, but since it's living in my bedroom, I'll probably never think to look at it when I want to try a new dish. Us artists types do impractical things like that for the sake of design.

Have a nice day-- practical or impractical, whichever you prefer!

Wacky Answer

There is not much of a stretch between Amour hot dogs and Armor hot dogs is there?  So yesterday's (7-24-13) Wacky was one of the easier ones to guess.  Did you know the Armour company goes way back to the 1800s, and was one of Chicago's biggest businesses?  The company has been sold a few times since 1970. They also make Dial soap!  How about that?

Postcard Art

Sunday Postcard Art has a theme this week that no collage artist could refuse: ephemera. I don't have tons of ephemera but enough. The only requirement is size, 4" x 6". At the center is an old florist's gift card from a very thoughtful fellow. I've also included an old postage stamp, bingo number cut from a game card plus cardboard markers, handwritten letter, Password game card, price card from a package of Xmas cards (get that price-- 10 cards for 29 cents!!).  The flowers were cut from a very beat up gardening book. Pretty fun project.

Have a nice Thursday!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Well, no prize for guessing this Wacky. Did you know yesterday was National Hot Dog Day?  I actually found that out after I selected this Wacky.  Weird.

So if you didn't eat a hot dog yesterday, have one today!

TT/Fish and A Bonus

A very straight-forward theme this week at Tag Tuesday: Fish. Below is the tag I completed and posted there.

I also made these three other fish tags but was not very thrilled with any of them. As long as I did go to the trouble to complete them, I thought I'd post them anyway.

And just to keep this post going, here are my movie star tags I made for the A-Z theme at Tag Tuesday earlier this year. A couple of the taggers asked me what I did with all of them, and responding; "They're in an undecorated shoebox" just wouldn't cut it so I made little books.  The front and back covers are mat board I decorated and held them all together with binder rings.

Okay-- I'm done now; go have a nice day!

Cosmos

I know, big deal, so she grew cosmos.  But I never did before so it is kind of a big deal. They are doing very well in my front yard planter. I planted them from seed, and when they first started coming up, I was thrilled.  At about three inches tall, I thought they weren't cosmos but the marigolds I also planted. The leaves are similar, but I was right the first time-- cosmos.

They somewhat make up for the lack of zinnias this year-- have done zip so far. Nuts!  I love zinnias.

Have a good day-- find joy in something as simple as cosmos!

Audrey In A Hat

The word at Take A Word Challenge this week is "hats."  I did a Google search and came up with Audrey Hepburn in this cute pink number. With such a pretty image and pretty background color, I felt it didn't really need much to make a quick ATC.

Have a stylish day!

Incongruous

"Incongruous" is the theme at Collage Obsession this week. Rather fun. Believe it or not, it was harder to come up with something that didn't belong than did.

I kept thinking of that old Sesame Street song: "One of these things is not like the others..."

Have a nice start to the weekend!

Wacky Answer

Of course everyone knew Downy fabric softener from yesterday's (7-17-13) Wacky Pack.  First introduced in 1961; do you remember the cute illustration of the little girl on the bottle?  Now they use a photograph. I kinda like the old one better.

Dog Hair Commodity

In the summer I brush my dogs outside for obvious shed reasons.  I left some of Arthur's hair out there and guess who decided to use it for nesting material?

The hair wasn't there ten minutes before this homemaker stepped in.  That's the third or so time sparrows helped themselves to Arthur hair.

We know where they are taking it too.  Just several feet away in a plastic gourd birdhouse we put out every spring.  Must be awfully fluffy in there!

Lucky for the sparrows Arthur loves to be brushed!

Have a comfy day!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Anyone who has done laundry in the last 50 years will probably know this product. As a matter-of-fact, I often feel like I'm drowning in dirty laundry!!

Happy middle of the week!

TT/The Roaring Twenties

Tag Tuesday has an interesting theme this week: The Roaring Twenties.  A lot of choices there.  I happened to have this image of sheet music from 1926 so decided to use that. How about that title?  I wonder how the song went?

There are many new contributors to Tag Tuesday now.  Worth a look!

Have a good day, and maybe a cup of coffee, a sandwich...

Hey, folks-- "On The Ball" Pat at Corn In My Coffee Pot clued me in that this song can be heard on youtube. Here is the link.

Thanks, Pat!

Flowers Tag

Another tag to show today. This one I just finished for Dragons Dream Tag It On. Their current theme is "vintage, texture, flowers" plus a real rubber stamp. If you have the time, pop over to Dragons; the examples are really worth a peek.

Just between us, I inked in the O in "joy" freehand. My lower case alphabet stamps set is an old one I bought second-hand, and a few of the letters are missing. I tried to come up with a word that did not contain a missing letter, but nothing seemed appropriate. So if I hadn't blabbed, would you know?

Have a nice Monday!

Spoon Rack Makeover

I picked up this spoon rack at a thrift store recently and decided it needed an update-- looked awfully late 70s to me.  And I almost forgot to take a "before" photo which is why it is painted on the top-- didn't buy it that way!

Here's the finished product.  What do you think?  Decoupaged the images and "aged" the entire piece.  Kind of funny to think I "aged" something from the 1970s!
It will go in my Etsy shop soon.

Have a fun day!

Vacation ATC

So Artful Challenges is running a theme of creating something about a vacation, real or imagined, using the colors red, yellow, and white.  I came up with an ATC for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  I've never been there.  It was in the running one summer but was bumped for Mackinac Island.  I used their logo (on the white) and the other image is a wall in a psychedelic music exhibit they once had.

As long as we're on the subject of rock and roll, here is a Led Zeppelin collage I recently completed. And did you notice that is a Zeppelin LP in the above photo?

Have a rockin' day!

Okay, I Lied

On Monday, I posted what I said was the last of my stamp collection. Well, I forgot about the stamps below.  Since they are not singles, I have them stored separately from the others so didn't think of them.

Marilyn and The Doors are foreign stamps.  My husband bought them for me years ago through some mail order offer.

The Doors stamps are really nice.  Those are their album covers in case you don't know.

So that's it, and if I come across any more stamps, I think I'll keep my mouth shut.

Hey, it's Friday!

Wacky Answer

Yesterday's (7-10-13) Wacky Package was Kellogg's Corn Flakes cereal.  No, I didn't make my husband exchange the corn flakes he bought for Frosted Flakes.  I'll survive-- I think.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

Another cereal parody this week. I'm dedicating this Wacky to my husband who can't read "Frosted Flakes" on a grocery list so comes home with this.

Have a nice day and double check that grocery list!

TT/Italy

Tag Tuesday is back to assigned themes this week.  First up is "Italy." As I mentioned last week, I don't have any Italian in me that I know of. I never had a real brainy idea so went sorta predictable, but I liked the pop of yellows. And the phrase means: Let's eat!

Ciao!

Last of the Stamps

Here is the last of my stamp collection. Below are some old ones. Half a cent? Can you imagine??

These are foreign stamps that I bought on Ebay for obvious dog reasons.

And custom stamps that are legal postage. Very cool. You can put any photo on them. That is my sister's horse, and her lab with mine. With the way postage has gone up lately, I probably won't be ordering more, however.
Happy Monday, folks!
