Turquoise Postcard

I stumbled onto a blog called International Mail Art Project, and one of the posts is asking for postcards with the theme "Turquoise." Kind of intriguing. It went all the way to Austria (in excellent time too) and is posted with others here. My submission is all magazine paper.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

This is an older Wacky from 1973. Do you know what the original product name is? I had to look it up. Krispy Crackers saltines made by Sunshine. Apparently these are still available. I don't think I've seen them in years.

Have a good one!

Greetings

Sunday Postcard Art's theme this week is "Pieces of Pictures." I took a literal route and cut pieces from pictures in magazines. Enough to fill a 4" x 6" space. So which arrangement do you prefer? This first one is just random.

This one is alternating (more or less) flowers with landscapes.

Below is a color type arrangement.

This one is sort of alternating colors.

And this one is logical-- from sky down to flowers.

I went logical with a little tweaking. After I glued the pieces down, I had no idea what to do with it. I decided it looked like a real postcard so went with that.

Hope you find yourself somewhere pleasant today.  Thanks for viewing!

Weekly Album Project

Let's catch up with my weekly album. I really outdid myself with the "from scratch" cooking that week. Nuts to that! Ugh!

This is the first card I made with a design on the back. Thought it was appropriate. I might add a patterned paper or notes to the backs of the previous ones as they do look rather plain.

You might recall I decided to join in the Tim Holtz blog's 12 Tags of 2015. Gosh, the March tag will be posted soon!

I had to document the big snow we had the first week of Feb.

This was the week I made my first accordion books.  Plus it was Valentine's Day and Friday the 13th.

Another weather report page.  Nasty cold that week.

On to March and hopefully improving weather (I'm not holding my breath, however!).

1967 Fashions for Girls

Turnabout is fair play-- time for the girls' clothing showcase from the '67 Sears catalog. Very cute-- notice the girl on the left is wearing gloves.

I must admit I don't remember seeing anyone wear one of these "Madeline" hats. Scarves (pictured at the bottom) I do remember. I even still have one my aunt made for me in the 60s.

Fun colors.

Matching raincoat, scarf, and unbrella! What more could you ask for? Maybe a Kanga and Roo plush??

Mod styles are sneaking their way in.

Yep-- mod! How about the granny glasses?!

Enjoy your day!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

I think most folks will know this week's Wacky. STP oil treatment, but do you know what that stands for? How does “Scientifically Treated Petroleum” grab you? The Studebaker company also tied it into advertising in the early 60s with “Studebaker Tested Products”. So what does it stand for today? I dunno. Anyone?

Have a good day out there and stay warm if you can!

UPDATE: So you can sleep better tonight-- Joe is right. STP still stands for “Scientifically Treated Petroleum.”  Thanks, Joe!

Accordion Books and Happy Presidents Day

Here is the latest paper craft fad I decided to try: accordion books. Just folded card stock. Mine are only four panels long. Most are much longer, but I thought that was a good place to start-- less work too! They're about 10 inches long and 4 inches high. I've made two so far.

Here is one side with just the background papers adhered and the edges colored with markers.

Here is the finished piece.

This is the reverse side of the above.

Here is the other book.

And here is the back side.

I like the fact they can stand on their own for display.

Of course, you can do anything with one of these books, not just collage. Markers, paint, add fabric... Pretty fun. I'm beginning to think there are too many ideas out there!

Enjoy your day!

Tired of Inchies Yet?

I'm not although my eyes sort of are. Here is the latest batch.

Seven cent coupons were the norm in the mid-seventies. I clipped the above "7¢s" from vintage magazines. Ever notice how many coupons today are "Save 50¢ when you buy three???" Get real!

Have a nice day out there!

Valentine's Day 2015

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I don't think Valentine candy contains any calories either, but you might want to double check that. Have a fun day!

Comments are off-- enjoy!

You'll Never Believe What I Bought...

... at the thrift store.  But first the stuff you will believe. A small Mary Engelbreit gift book, two old chenille type doilies that were made in Belgium, and an old set of ironing board fasteners. I had never heard of those before-- have you? Kind of neat to display in a laundry room if you're luck enough to have one other than a dingy basement (let's me out).

Another ME product-- a photo bookmark.  And not one, but four complete decks of old playing cards in nice condition too.

I rarely see dollhouse items at the thrifts, but I was lucky to spy carpet and wooden flooring, neither of which I have ever had before.  Cool!

So here is the thing you won't believe.  Yes, a toilet seat!  We needed a new one, and this one was new, still in its packaging.  I'll let you insert some sort of potty humor here.

Hmm... maybe I should leave you with a better picture...  Lilacs from last year.
 Thanks for looking!

Wacky Pack Wednesday

This week's Wacky Pack is new, and it's a card, not a sticker. Can you tell it is spoofing a book? The original is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. It was first published in 1964. I think this version looks much funnier.

Have a fun day-- and watch out for those trees!

1967 Fashions for Boys

Today's Sears catalog excerpt is focusing on clothing for boys. First up, overcoats, and a fedora, no less!

Okay, guys, the next time you cringe at having to wear a suit, just be thankful plaid jackets went out of style.

The 60s guys just couldn't get away from plaid!!

The next two photos remind me of the Dennis the Menace TV show for some reason; it went off the air in '64. And, yes, more plaid!!

I just threw this in for inflation reference. Three pairs of socks for $1.19!!

I remember boys wearing jackets like these.

Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!

Tags of 2015 February

The tag at the Tim Holtz blog this month is naturally about Valentine's Day, and a very pretty one it is. Here is my take, an inchie and an ATC once again. I'll probably stick with that throughout the year.

Have a "love-ly" day!
