U.S. Presidents Trading Cards

In keeping with the "election theme," here are some U.S Presidents trading cards that I've had since good ol' '72.

Like my favorite Wacky Packages, these too were put out by by Topps.  They were sold in packs with the ever-present stick of gum, the same as Wacky Packs and baseball cards.  Each president up to 1972 was pictured on a card plus the '72 presidential candidates.  They sell on Ebay for $4.00 each on average.  Unopened packs are rare and pricey.  If I ever come into $$$, maybe I'll add to my little collection.

Snoopy For President

With an election looming, I decided to share some political collectibles I have had for decades-- they've seen many elections over the years.  First up is a plastic Dolly Madison bookmark and ruler.  Can Snoopy be considered political?  Let's say "patriotic."  This was a freebie in some Dolly Madison product (don't remember which one); put out in 1972.  Was "freebie" even a word back in '72?

Wacky Answer

Yesterday's (10-31-12) Wacky is somewhat regional, but I think most people have heard of White Castle even if you never ate one.  The product pictured is the frozen variety available in grocery stores, not quite as good as the real thing if anyone wants my opinion.

Halloween Cross Stitch

Ever get carried away with a project?  Last year I bought a cross stitch pattern to make a few gifts-- and keep a couple for myself.  Well...

Um, yes, there are more...

And when I thought I was done, my daughter asked me to make this one for her.

So I made every one on the pattern for my house! That's okay; I did get the gifts made too!

TT/Halloween

Naturally "Halloween" is the theme this week at Tag Tuesday.  Since most of my work tends to be on the upbeat side, I tried to go a little sinister with this theme, but it still came out more light-hearted than I intended.

The "labels" are from a scrapbook paper that I recently bought, and they got me to thinking about a witch's spell.  From there I decided to make my tag resemble a witch's journal page.  Rather abstract concept, I guess, but it was fun!

Halloween Candles

As I mentioned around Easter this year, I inherited my grandmother's Gurley Christmas candles years ago.  There were a few Easter and Halloween candles in there too.  These two ghosts were hers.

And these I was lucky enough to snag at an estate sale this Spring.

If you're a careful observer, you noticed the jack-o-lantern candle in yesterday's post.  That belonged to my grandmother too.

Enjoy!
