Monday's Muster #16

Okay, I bet you don't know any other woman who has old horse bits hanging on her back porch. I have a "horsey" theme going on and these look good hanging there. I think they all are from flea markets years ago-- like 25 years ago. I know I didn't pay more than 3 or 4 dollars for any of them.

I also have two old bridles back there. This one I just bought last year at a local garage sale for 2 bucks. The leather is horribly dried out. I was going to take the bit off and chuck the headstall but after cleaning it and oiling it, it came back somewhat. I need to keep oiling it (not too high on my list of chores unfortunately).

This one, which is slightly camouflaged by a nylon halter, belonged to a horse I knew many years ago. He was a livery horse at a public riding stable. How my sister and I wanted to buy him, but we were in our teens, no moolah, etc. I was able to buy his bridle and hang onto it.

See-- I warned you these collections were quite varied!

Enjoy!

  1. How neat. I like old Western books and a few horse related things but I've never ridden horses. Enjoy your day my friend! Sweet hugs, Diane

  2. Having had a horse when I was a kid (and it was like a dream come true!!), I love the collections. Wish I had the halter and bridle from Shammar (my horse).

  3. The horse bits are cool. I would never have known that's what they were if I just saw them hanging someplace.

  5. What a fabulous idea Diane! I'll have to keep an eye out for old bits when I hit the farm auctions this year, thanks for the inspiration!
