What Do April Snow Showers Bring?

This is the scene I awoke to on Saturday, APRIL 9TH!! Couldn't believe it!

I knew we were in for a cold night so covered some of my budding plants (those are old pillowcases).

The daffodils were not happy.

My daughter's fairyland looks a little shocked.

And I don't think this bird statue knows what hit it.

UGH!! I hope your weekend weather was better!!

I'll Ask Again: April???

At the start of the week, I talked about the wintry weather we had been having, and I'm going to end the week the same way. Lots of gray days lately, rain, snow flurries... what happened to Spring??

I'll have to focus on the little things.

Have a great weekend!

Open Your Eyes

Let's look at a very cute children's book, Open Your Eyes which was published in 1964. I bought this at a thrift store several years ago when my daughter was younger, but I like it as much as she did. The illustrations are so charming.

It is a simple story of two brothers stuck inside while it is raining. They try to think of things that are different colors. The text rhymes too.

And who doesn't like a big, smiling sun? Nothing like a happy ending.

I hope you have a sunny day!

Inchies On Cards

It's no secret I like to make inchies, but I never do much with them. I have used a few on bookmarks, but I decided to try some on note cards (because I don't make enough of those either, right??). I kept the cards simple, or the inchie would get lost in a more frantic design. My eleven-year-old refers to this style as boring.

Boring or not, I will be making more; it's a good way to put these inchies to use!

Thanks for looking!

April???

Saturday was one day after April Fool's Day, but the weather seemed like someone's idea of a joke. All day long we had snow, wind, sun, snow, wind, sun... and the always popular snow while the sun is shining.

It did stick for awhile too.

One of the many clear moments

Weather in Chicago is rarely dull. Thanks for stopping by!

Inchies On A Thursday

I'm sharing some more inchies today. These are not real postage stamps-- pictures from a philatelic catalog.

1960s shoes from a Sears catalog.

All vintage here from 1960s craft magazines, and a very old cookbook.

The top two image were cut the same 1960s craft magazine. The backgrounds are scrapbook paper that I embellished a bit with a white pen. The penguins were also cut from a stamp catalog (and believe it or not, I added some glitter to that one; some of you may know I'm not a glitter type girl).

The next two photos show an experiment. I used monoprint scraps for the backgrounds then drew designs with markers.

No, my printing is not that perfect. The "art" letters are stickers.

Thanks for looking and have a nice day!

New Envelopes

I was back at making envelopes a couple weeks ago. These are the simple tri-fold style, using old magazine pages. You have to admit they are colorful!
