Gardening Collages

Collage Obsession has a very summery theme this week: Gardening.  I retrieved my very beat up, slightly musty Better Homes and Gardens Gardening Book that I picked up at a garage sale last year for a quarter.  I came up with not one but two collages.

I wanted to give black and white a try when I came cross this photo.  Usually I'm not a pushover for cute kids, but this little one seems to be walking so carefully in her bonnet and white shoes that it did make an impression on me. The photo was illustrating sidewalks and how they can be stained for a more attractive look. The flower illustrations are from the same book.

The flowers on this one were from a seed catalog and scrapbook paper.  I must admit the hydrangeas on the right side look a bit like weird broccoli!  And do we love Mother playing croquet in a skirt? You can click on any photo to bring it up bigger.

Wacky Answer

The Wacky posted yesterday (8-7-13) should not have caused much head scratching.  Playtex Living Gloves, of course.  "Living" gloves does sound a little spooky when you stop and think about it.

Wacky Pack Wednesday

I'm sure everyone will know this week's Wacky Package. No reason I chose this one. Although it does bring to mind the observation I read a few years ago: no husband was ever killed while he was doing the dishes.

TT/Weddings

In honor of my anniversary month, Tag Tuesday chose the theme "weddings" for this week.  Just kidding-- the theme is indeed "weddings," but that is just a coincidence. Sounded good though, didn't it? My tag is rather retro; old sewing pattern bride (remember when wedding dresses had sleeves??) and old wedding wrapping paper underneath.  I wonder if the phrase is old-fashioned too?  Do brides still follow this little superstition?  I did.

Folio Thingies

I recently made a bunch of mini-folio-journal-photo-album-thingies from scrapbook papers. They vary in size but are about 2 1/2" x 3". The idea is to use them in photo albums, scrapbooks, etc., or you could use them alone as mini albums. The idea is to attach photos and write info on the spaces provided. 

This one has a removable tag on the front.

Interior

So what would you call these? Do they already have a name for them? I'm going with "mini journal photo folio" which is not too zippy.  Any suggestions?

UPDATE: So everyone can sleep better out there-- I decided on "Mini Scrap Folder."  There are a few in my Etsy shop now.

More Finds

Between a couple thrifts stores and driving all over creation (well, town) to estate sales, I did come home with some nifty finds. Up first, old Royal Copley (I think) ivy vase. Not one but two metal recipe boxes-- found at different locations, and four 1970s stoneware dessert plates.

These little pots and saucers are marked Takahashi on the bottoms.  Very cute and very early-mid 70s looking.

Two hardback Peanuts books with very mod bright colors inside from 1965 and 1963.  Old Old maid (not a typo-- this is an old edition). Four boxes of rather vintagey birthday candles-- isn't it amazing what someone had in their house for decades?? And two cute bridge tallies; the smaller set it is unopened. I rest my case.

I knew of three estate sales in my area which is about three more than usual, and I came upon a fourth where I bought some things. Another was a bear to park at and had nothing I was interested which was good because items were overpriced. The other two-- never found one, the last had potted plants out front with price tags and a half open (or half closed?) garage door.  No people, no signs, no customers--- at 11 a.m. Weird.  Oh well, I bought enough as it was.

Beach Plaque

Timely theme at Order Of The Opus Gluei for the next two weeks. Beach-- obviously. I made a decoupaged plague (on wood). I've made a ton of plaques and can't seem to sell any.  Out of vogue? I think they are pretty neat.  But then again anyone who uses the word "neat" might not be aware of current decorating trends!
