More 70s Decor

Here are a few more pages from the 1975 Better Homes and Garden Decorating Book.  Who would think to put an old radio in a modern setting?  Looks good though.

So what happened to cool, funky decorating? As I recall, it went to country blue and mauve then shabby chic white which seems to be in quite a rut. Let's see some new trends out there!

70s Decor

I picked up a Better Homes and Gardens Decorating Book at a recent garage sale with the intent to resell. When I flipped thorough it at home, I decided it was a keeper. Published in 1975 it combines the mod era with that nostalgia/antique movement. Very cool.

This first picture shows the same room done in different colors. Quite a difference. Which one do you prefer? By the way, click on any photo to bring it up larger.

Arrows anyone? I don't remember them being this popular. Quite a statement!

What a fun redo on an old bathroom! Believe it or not, my sister and I painted out bedroom these exact colors, bright yellow walls and dark/bright orange trim, somewhere around 1977. It was fun, but I have to admit when we repainted off-white over it years later, it did seem much more calm and cool.

Decor sure has changed. I have a few more shots from this book I'll post tomorrow.

Wacky Answer

The Wacky Pack posted yesterday (9-4-13) was a no brainer, right? Haagen-Dazs ice cream (yum) was first created in New York in 1961.  The first three flavors: vanilla, chocolate, coffee.  No snarlberry.

As you can probably figure out, this is a newer Wacky since this product was not available back in the early 70s-- at least not in grocery stores. Maybe this company should think about making dog friendly ice cream, using this name, eh?

TT/Eyes

I guess I was still in 60s mode from last week's theme at Tag Tuesday. This week's theme is "Eyes" which made me think of the 60s trend in art called "Big Eyed." I even had a big-eyed dog statue that somewhere along the line I got rid of because I thought it looked too sad. This image came from a puzzle called "The Mods." They definitely are mod. I added some stickers and flowers I cut from card stock.

Smash Pages

Since I posted about being gifted a Smash Book several days ago, I have completed three pages (and messed around with the cover). I still don't have a real theme of what I'm doing other than stuff I like which I guess is good enough. I doubt many other Smashers have done a page about the Jack Benny radio program.  I've listened to quite a lot of episodes, and they're all pretty funny. 

Once again, I doubt Buffalo Bill has received much attention in Smash Books. He had quite a life, and I actually visited his home and barn in North Platte, Nebraska-- one of the nicest barns I've ever been in.  Big too!

Anyone who knows me, shouldn't be surprised at this page. The background is one of the decorated Smash pages. I did add a few birds to help out my composition-- I'm not telling which ones.

The cover needs a bit of an explanation or apology (?). Since it's embossed, I thought I would dry brush over it to bring up the design.  Well, the paint did nothing for the design so I went over it with a marker. It's okay, but not what I really intended which can be said of many art projects, right?

So there are my first attempts at Smashing. My pages aren't as smashy as the company probably intended, but so far, that's my story, and I'm sticking with it.
