I'm willing to bet no one guessed my choice for "I" this week at Tag Tuesday. I'd also be willing to bet many of you never heard the name Iron Eyes Cody. He made a ton of movies going back to 1926, and also did a lot of TV work from the 50s through the 80s. What I did not know was he was actually Italian, and not Native American! What?! Talk about good acting!
One reason I chose Iron Eyes Cody is he was the Native American portrayed in the "Keep America Beautiful" TV commercials of the 1970s. He is known as "The Crying Indian" from those commercials. Back in the day, I wrote to the KAB council and requested some of their free materials (yes, I said "free"). This poster was one of the items I received. It hangs in my bedroom hall.
Enjoy!
I love the beaded detail! That is really beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteI remember that guy and those ads. How funny that he was Italian. Didn't know that! He would certainly cry if he saw the state of this country. People just don't litter here -- they throw anything and everything on the ground, even bags of garbage out their windows. It's sickening! 18 years here and I still can't get over it. Have a great week. Tammy
ReplyDeleteI didn't know he was Italian either. Did you see the picture done by his second wife? Wonder what happened to her? I know they were divorced after a short time. Love the card and the detail.
ReplyDeleteI remember those commercials...they used to worry me a lot.
ReplyDeleteWonder if anything has changed.

oh I recognized him right away... I did NOT know he was Italian.
ReplyDeleteWe've been duped.
Your tag art...is wonderful. It's irony to me...things that don't appear to be completely or solely made out for art...but could possibly get tossed aside-- put together in such a way to make a statement piece.
Your art today really spoke to my creative- recycler side!
